Withdrawl Your Signature from 1107
If you signed Initiative 1107 without understanding its impacts, download our form here that we will collect and send in to the Secretary of State to withdrawl your signature.
I am a registered voter in the state of Washington and I believe I may have signed a petition for Initiative 1107. The concise description in the ballot title for I-1107 states that, “This measure would end sales tax on candy; end temporary sales tax on some bottled water; end temporary excise taxes on carbonated beverages; and reduce tax rates for certain food processors.” I have since learned that I-1107 would cost the state several hundred millions of dollars in revenue to be used to fund schools, health care, and other services.
Upon consideration, I have decided that I would like to withdraw my name and signature...
Decline to Sign 1107
Out-of-state special interest groups are at it again—threatening our state’s economic recovery with Initiative 1107. Now is our chance to stop this anti-health care, anti-education initiative before it even make it onto the November ballot.
I-1107 would strip critical state funding for health care and education, lead to deep cuts to critical services for seniors and kids, and slash other core services. It is heavily funded by the national beverage-industry, and would repeal taxes on soda pop, candy, gum, and bottled water. The initiative would cost hundreds of millions in lost revenue over the next two years, and would lead to further deep cuts to important state services including Basic Health and K-12 education programs.
Signature gatherers will be out in force over the weekend. The 1107 campaign has only three weeks to collect 300,000 signatures, and they’re paying their signature gatherers an extraordinary amount of money per signature. By contrast, the mostly temporary taxes that will protect health care and education are very small—e.g. 2 cents per bottle of water or can of soda.
What can you do to stop these initiatives?
- Do not sign I-1107.
- Spread the word. Make sure your family, friends and colleagues know that these initiatives would hurt your community. Ask them to decline to sign.
- If you see a signature gatherer, stand next to him or her for 5-10 minutes and encourage others not to sign the initiative as well. Simply say: “Please don’t sign this initiative. It would hurt our state’s economic recovery and would take away badly needed money from health care and our schools.” Most people who sign ballot initiatives don’t know what they’re about and are unlikely to sign if someone tells them how devastating losing this funding would be.
- Report back ASAP when you encounter signature gatherers for 1107 and 1053. Please call 1-888-207-7307, text to 425-998-STOP (7867), or email wa.declinetosign@gmail.com and let Decline to Sign organizers know where signature gatherers are in your area. This is very important. Timely information about where they are collecting signatures is critical to the success of a Decline to Sign effort to stop the initiatives from making the ballot.
Remember: DECLINE TO SIGN I-1107! Please pass this message on to others and ask them to forward to their network of family and friends.
