There's a Hole in the Middle of the State
by Kurt Guenther
There's a hole in the middle of the state
There's a hole in the middle of the state
Where compassion used to be
Like fighting poverty
And making sure our kids are doing great
There's a hole in the middle of the state
There's a hole in the middle of the state
Where leaders once were found
Now they say their hands are bound
And progress...well you're gonna have to wait
There's a hole in the middle of the state
There's a hole in the middle of the state
The rich can still leap over, with their loopholes and Landrovers
While other folks just try to fill a plate
There's a hole in the middle of the state
There's a hole in the middle of the state
Better change the way we're livin', both who's takin' and who's givin'
If we want to have a hand in our own fate.
And, Now our Vice-Progressive Poet (a close runner-up)!
Re-Invocation
by Derek Sheffield)
Oh say can you remember
McMahan and Condotta turning their backs
on Imam Joban's prayer?
Oh say can you hear her
say Islam attacked America,
while he blamed his bladder?
Washington State heard round
the world. Let us not forget
the work of true minds.
Let us pledge allegiance
to a laugh and let that memory be.
Let us be one state, going forward, for all.
Thanks for all who entered! Stay tuned to this blog for our next Progressive (Fill in The Blank) Contest here.
