Senator Cantwell: Support Health Care Reform

The time for fixing the nation's broken health care system is now.
Right now.
For the first time in fifteen years we have a window of opportunity for real reform and the President is calling on us to help make it happen. In a recent survey, our members voted overwhelmingly (93 to 7 percent) that Fuse should tackle health care reform.
At this moment key committees in Congress are weighing options and making decisions about how to meet President Obama's promise of real health care reform in 2009.
The President needs your help to ensure our U.S. Senators are on board. Especially Senator Maria Cantwell. As a member of the powerful Senate Finance Committee Senator Cantwell carries a critical vote on this issue. And she's on the fence when it comes to the public insurance plan option - a critical element of true reform.
Supporting the President and joining thousands of Washington residents in signing an open letter to Senator Cantwell urging her to support a strong public health insurance option is extremely important. Time is short. Behind-the-scenes advocates say the debate is fiery and committee votes could happen as soon as next week. The next few days are a critical time to shape the legislation as it's being written. It is critical that lawmakers hear from us as health industry lobbyists attempt to block reform at every turn. Insurance companies are spending $1.4 million per day to protect their interests and kill the public option.
That public option is necessary to lasting reform and is favored by a majority of Americans. One of the cornerstones of President Obama's health care plan, it allows businesses and families the choice of keeping the insurance that they have or buying into a quality public health insurance plan that would compete with private insurers to lower costs and keep the insurance industry honest. A recent study from the nonpartisan Commonwealth Fund showed that, within 10 years, health care reform that includes a public option would save up to $1.8 trillion more than a plan that does not include a public option.
Please urge Senator Cantwell to support the public option. Sign an open letter to your Senator now!
