Insurance companies are spending more than $1.4 million a day to water down reform and kill President Obama's public health insurance option. While the President is trying to control costs and cover all Americans with quality care, insurance lobbyists and industry groups are fighting against change.
For the first time in fifteen years we have a window of opportunity for real reform and the President is calling on us to help make it happen. U.S. Senators from Washington State are playing a major role in the health care debate and they need to hear from us. To get a public health care option, it will take a massive public push.
With so many issues to cover, we need your input. Fuse members have been working hard on critical concerns like reducing the impacts of global warming and squelching a referendum to repeal domestic partnership rights. We know your email in-boxes are already crowded. But with real health care reform on the horizon, we need to know if it's time to add one more issue to our action agenda. It will take all of us working together to win a health care reform package that meets the needs of every American.
We want to hear from you: Is it time for Fuse members to get involved in this effort? Are you ready to push for health care reform in 2009? Are you in?
Yes, let's tackle health care reform
No, we shouldn't do that
This is why Fuse members can make the difference on national health care reform: Washington Senator Maria Cantwell is a key vote on quality health care. She sits on the very powerful Finance Committee and will be a deciding 'yes' or 'no' vote on any reform bill. The Senator has given conflicting signs about where she sits on a public insurance option, an option favored by 70 percent of Americans. She is hearing from the insurance lobbyists, but will need to hear from us in serious numbers if we are going to win.
The public option is a popular cornerstone of President Obama's health care plan and would allow businesses and families the choice of keeping the insurance that they have or buying into a quality public health insurance plan. A public option would compete with private insurers to lower costs and keep the insurance industry honest. A recent study from the nonpartisan Commonwealth Fund showed that, within 10 years, health care reform that includes a public option would save up to $1.8 trillion more than a plan that does not include a public option.
At Fuse, we want to bring you issues you care about and actions that matter. Is it time for us to tackle Health Care Reform? Are you in? Click here to let us know:
